Good evening, Superintendent Spearman:

Thank you for standing up to the political pressure to open schools in a reckless manner during exponential COVID-19 spread in South Carolina. The AcceleratED task force, along with the districts, has worked hard to develop plans for reopening schools and this effort has not gone unnoticed by the teachers.

​

While the quarantine did flatten the curve, throwing the doors open with no regard for the citizens of SC has now caused COVID spread to increase to the point that other states are advising their citizens NOT to go to SC.

The Governor’s actions on behalf of the business interests have led to avoidable suffering and death amongst the workers. His inaction in the face of this threat has left the state in such a condition that other states are advising their citizens NOT to visit SC.

Please continue to stand up for SC teachers and students. Please don’t give in to the pressure to throw open the schools and expose the students and faculty in the same way the workers have been.

As a South Carolina teacher and citizen, I am asking you to approve district plans that open the school year in a deliberate and mindful way.
